Attacks on Asylum Home Declined Significantly | ZEIT ONLINE

The number of attacks on asylum shelters has dropped significantly this year compared to the same period last year. In the first nine months of the year, the authorities counted 110 crimes against asylum shelter, as reported by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), according to a report by the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung. In 2017, there were more than twice as many attacks in the same period.
            There were an average of 80 crimes per quarter last year, compared to only 36 in 2018. However, this is still an arithmetical attack every two and a half days. As there are usually many late entries, these are preliminary figures.
            With 108 out of 110 cases, according to the BKA, almost all acts have a right-wing radical background. Most were classified as property damage (38) or graffiti and propaganda (36), there were also cases of violent crime and sedition.

In 2017, the number of attacks had dropped to 312 a year.
            At the same time, the number of attacks on asylum seekers remains at a high level. In the first half of 2018, the federal government counted a total of 704 politically motivated attacks on asylum seekers, injuring 120 people. There were 627 attacks on refugees and 77 attacks on asylum shelters.
